Artist Lynne Whittington to be Honored

PRESS RELEASE from Leeds Arts Council:

Artist Lynne Whittington to be  Honored Sunday with Opening Reception

On Sunday, October 6, the Leeds Arts Council, Inc. will honor artist Lynne Whittington with an opening reception in the gallery at the Leeds Theatre and Arts Center, 8140 Parkway Drive, downtown Leeds.   The reception will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.  The public is invited.  There is no charge; however, her beautiful paintings will be available for purchase.

The artist paints to express herself and for the peace and emotional release it provides.  She says that she sketched and dabbled in paints from the time she was a child but considers herself to be a “late bloomer” as an artist.

It wasn’t until twelve years ago, following a career as a Nurse Practitioner and raising a family, that she began to focus on her art.   She states that her creativity and appreciation of the beauty around her comes from God.  She has learned much of her technique from studying with Ron Lewis, one of the local internationally and nationally known artists.   Lynne says that she has been blessed to study with him and other artists, as well.

The artist’s time is divided between two mediums: oil and watercolor.  She says that she is completely  unable to commit to only one. She loves the creamy rich texture  of oils but is equally enthralled by the vibrancy  and clearness of watercolor.  She will have paintings using both mediums on exhibit through October 31 at LAC’s gallery.

Lynne grew up in Birmingham and currently resides in Birmingham and Titusville, Florida.  She is a member of the Mountain Brook Art Association, the Southern Watercolor Society and is a signature member of the Watercolor Society of Alabama   She has been juried into many national and regional shows.

Lynne’s paintings tend to reflect the beauty she sees in the world around her.   The beauty  may be in the nature of her surroundings, simple objects that catch her eye, or in the people she sees.  Her hope is that when her paintings are viewed, the beauty or uniqueness that inspired her is seen.

The gallery is open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and during LAC events.  For more information regarding the exhibit or other LAC activities, call the arts center at 699-1892 or go to www.leedsartscouncil.org .  In case of inclement weather, call ahead for possible re-scheduling information.
