Opening Reception for Artist Cynthia (Cyndie) Hay

Leeds Theatre and Arts Center Project of Leeds Arts Council, Inc.The Leeds Arts Council (LAC) invites the public to attend an opening reception for well-known artist, Cynthia (Cyndie) Hay.  The reception will be Sunday, November 2, 2014 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Leeds Theatre and Arts Center, 8140 Parkway Drive, downtown Leeds.  There is no admission charge for the reception; however, her paintings will be available for purchase.  The gallery is also open from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and during LAC events.

Cynthia (Cyndie) Hay, the daughter of Minnesota artist Lenore Hagman, has been painting for 43 yrs. She has studied with many well known local artists such as London Bridges, Dot Jones, Ron Lewis and a little from Sally Johnson. She has also studied under such famous artists as Zoltan Szabo, Stephen Quiller, Joan Blackburn, Steven Doherty and many others. As she says, art “makes her heart sing”.

The artist has won many awards locally including Best of Show in a Vestavia Art Association show. James Nelson wrote about her work when Dennis Oppenheim juried her piece at the Birmingham Museum of Art, “Man Shall Not Live by Bread Alone”. Cyndie has been in national juried shows with jurors Dennis Oppenheim, Arnold Glimcher of New York, Dean Jones, Toni Elkins and more.

Cyndie is a member of the National Association of American Pen Women (NLAPW), a signature member of the Watercolor Society of Alabama and a member and past-president of the Mountain Brook Art Association.

The artist enjoys a variety of media, styles and subjects. She will have works in watercolor, acrylic and mixed media painted in representational, impressionistic and abstract styles. She paints both people and animals. Her work is available from Artists Incorporated in Vestavia HIlls.
