Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce Presents Citizen of the Year Award

Leeds, Al– The Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce presented the 2013 Citizen of the Year Award to Patricia Partridge on Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Annual Chamber Banquet.

Patricia was born and raised in Leeds and now lives in the home she grew up in. She can be seen around town at a multitude of Leeds activities and is active in many civic organizations. She has donated many countless hours to the Scenic Byway Project, Women’s Literary Club, Friends of the Library, the Historical Society and her beloved Presbyterian Church. Patricia can be found “behind the scenes” contributing her time and talents to many activities in Leeds.

Nominees for Citizens of the Year have demonstrated characteristics of service, either by many actions that have impacted the community, or by a single act that has touched many.

Other nominees for this year’s award included:

Peggy Baxter – Peggy is a beloved community member. She has been a guardian angel for the students of Leeds Elementary School serving as their crossing guard for many years. The children love her, and the parents respect her! This is her job, but she does it with so much dedication and obvious love for the children. Peggy is a treasure to our town and our school.

Kathy Dutton – Kathy has served on the Leeds Board of Education since 2008 and for the last two years as its President. She and the other school board members have been instrumental in the renovations of the elementary school, the building of the Middle and High Schools and are currently overseeing the design and preparations for the new Leeds Primary School set to open in 2015. Kathy is a life-long resident of Leeds and taught at Leeds Elementary School for 27 years before retiring in 2005. She can often be found supporting the Green Wave at many activities and sporting events. Kathy is heart-felt in her desire to make Leeds something all citizens can be proud of and she does this without compensation.

T.V. Weaver – T.V. has lived in Leeds for many years. His service to the community has been exemplary. He currently serves as president to the Leeds Lions Club where the motto of the Lions Club is “We Serve.” That motto is at the heart of what T.V. is all about. His service and fundraising efforts of many projects are solely to help the citizens of Leeds. His selfless acts make all who know him, proud to call him their friend. He doesn’t seek recognition but truly donates his time out of love for this community.

James Whitfield – James is a life-long resident of Leeds. He is married and has two sons, and has a successful law office also located in Leeds. He is an active member of Leeds First United Methodist Church and serves as an usher. James has participated in Habitat for Humanity projects, helped with youth ministry, delivered Meals on Wheels, is a board member of Leeds Outreach, a PTO member, a Master Mason and member of Lodge 446. He can also be found volunteering at the Red Barn. James is an asset to his community.

In addition to the Citizen of the Year Award being presented to Patricia, each nominee was given a plaque celebrating their contribution to the community.
