Step One
Choosing a Location, Certificate of Occupancy to Obtain Your Business License and More
The first step in thinking about starting a business or committing to a location in the City of Leeds is to visit City Hall at the City located at 1400 9th Street and connect with the Leeds Business Resource Team. They are there help you understand zoning, building requirements, certificates of occupancy, business licensing and other requirements that may affect your location. Starting with the City early in the process can help you avoid unexpected delays and make your path to opening much smoother.

Step Two
Obtain Your Business License and Open Your Business
Once you obtain your business license and set a date for your grand opening or a soft opening, contact the Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce to schedule a ribbon cutting to announce to the world that you are open for business. The Chamber can schedule your special opening event with city liaisons and other business professionals to make your opening day a success.

Join the Chamber of Commerce
Joining the Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce is one of the most important decisions for your new business. There are a multitude of benefits of being a chamber of Commerce member. Get Involved with the Chamber and Your Community
Now that you are a Chamber Member, we invite you to dive right in and get involved. The more involved you are in your local chamber of commerce, the more you will get out of your association.
Attend Chamber of Commerce Luncheons
First, attend your monthly chamber of commerce luncheon which is the third Thursday of each month. This is a great business networking event to meet other business professionals, have a great lunch and hear a dynamic speaker that can help your business grow.
Choose a Corporate Sponsorship
Corporate Sponsorships are available if you would like more business exposure in that realm.
Get Involved with Corporate Ambassadors

Through the Alabama SBDC Network, Leeds entrepreneurs and small business owners can access no-cost, confidential one-on-one business advising for starting, growing and strengthening their businesses.
Government Contracting Assistance
Businesses interested in selling products or services to federal, state or local government agencies can receive specialized assistance through the APEX Accelerator of Alabama.
Doing Business with Jefferson County
Businesses interested in becoming Jefferson County vendors can register, review current solicitations and access vendor resources through Jefferson County Vendor Services.
