Congratulations 2020 President’s Award Recipient Fred Britt
It is with great pleasure to announce the 2020 President’s Award recipient – Fred Britt. The award was presented to Fred by Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce Outgoing President, Dona Bonnett, via a personal visit in lieu of our annual awards luncheon.
The President’s Award is an award that is not given every year, but only at the President’s discretion. Dona, as Outgoing President, felt that Fred was very deserving of this prestigious award due to his strong leadership and effort to support the Leeds community. Fred is the President of Power Composites LLC. He has been a recognized expert on fiberglass pipe supports for over 20 years and worked on many projects with power, chemical and paper mill industries.
About 3 years ago, Fred was approached by a few military contractors and the University of Tennessee to see if he would be interested in laser cutting the fabric that is used to construct ballistic military vests. Fred’s wife, Jennifer Linn, CEO & CFO of the company, encouraged Fred to start a new division that specializes in laser cutting.
With a lot of research and hard work, they started Power Laser Cut. Along with cutting fabrics, they design their own line of décor panels for individuals and commercial applications. These are used as wall decorations, room dividers, vent covers and much more.
Last year with COVID-19, they switched gears to provide sneeze guards nationwide to businesses such as doctors, dentists, voting stations, city halls and anywhere else they are needed. Fred and Jennifer, have demonstrated their love for Leeds and continue to find ways to give back to our community. Some of these ways include catering several evening meals for Leeds police officers and donating 550 surgical face masks to the fire and police departments during the COVID-19 pandemic when these items were in such short supply. Fred personally delivered 100 of those masks to the stations for families of the police officers and firefighters. They were also busy laser cutting face mask parts for Birmingham Face Masks Group who donated over 115,000 face masks during the shortages.
Fred currently serves as a chamber board member and actively supports the chamber corporate ambassador program. In 2019, he and Jennifer organized a visit with a group from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade based in Arlington, Virginia to meet with our city officials and are constantly thinking of ways to promote Leeds and the resources we have here.
