Frank Little to present history of Fuller’s Mill at next meeting

Fuller’s Mill will be the subject of Frank Little’s presentation at the Leeds Historical Society’s Sunday, April 12 meeting. The meeting will begin at 2 pm at the Leeds Historic Depot, which is located at 8335 Thornton Avenue in Leeds. The public is invited to the meeting, and refreshments will be served.

He will present a history of the mill and discuss the society’s plans for the site. Frank is a descendent of Henry Little, an early resident of Leeds. Henry built and operated the grist mill almost 200 years ago, after settling in the southern Cahaba Valley in 1819.

In 2010, the Fuller’s Mill property was deeded to the historical society by Jimmy Moore. Since that time, the society has worked to clear the property so that the ruins of the mill can be seen from Hwy. 119.

Help Leeds Historical Society collect information about local veterans

The Leeds Historical Society asks for your help in collecting information about all of Leeds’ veterans who served in any branch of the military during wartime or peacetime. The photos and information that you provide will be displayed on a special Wall of Honor in the Archives/Veterans Room at the Bass House museum.

If you are a Leeds veteran, please send the society a picture of yourself, preferably taken when you served in the military. An 8 -by-10-inch copy of your photo will be for the display, free of charge, and the original photo will be returned to you.

Along with the photo, please include your name, rank, branch of service and where you served. That information will be included in a short biography to displayed with your photo. Also, if you have a deceased family member who was a veteran, please trust the society with a photograph for a short time.

You may mail the photo and biographical information to Frank Little at P.O. Box 961, Leeds AL 35094, or, if you prefer, you can call Frank or Margaret Little at 699-1010, and they will pick up the photo, make a copy and return it to you in a timely manner.
