Leeds Chamber Welcomes Representative Susan DuBose

The Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce hosted Representative Susan DuBose at its January 16th luncheon, where she highlighted significant legislative accomplishments and shared her vision for Alabama's future. The luncheon was held at First Baptist Church Leeds and was sponsored by Structured Technology LLC.

Rep. DuBose praised Leeds as a fabulous community and benefiting from numerous grants. She reviewed recent legislative successes, including capping property tax increases at 7%, reducing Alabama's grocery tax from 4% to 3%, and strengthening school choice through the Choose Act, which provides up to $7,000 for students to transfer from schools not meeting those students’ needs.

She addressed critical reforms, including ensuring Title IX protections remain unchanged, requiring ID to access online adult content, and safeguarding parents' rights to view their child's curriculum. Rep. DuBose also noted Alabama’s designation as the most military-friendly state, with tax relief for deployed service members.

Looking ahead, she outlined legislative priorities such as protecting law enforcement, post-election audits, advancing religious freedoms, and addressing critical societal issues like illegal drugs, gender definitions, and raising the age of medical consent to 18.

Rep. DuBose concluded with updates on local initiatives, including efforts to secure tax exemptions for charitable programs like Backpack Buddies. She encouraged citizens to stay informed and engaged as Alabama continues its legislative session from February to May.

The Chamber thanks Mrs. Mae Hinton, who celebrated her 88th birthday today, and her team of ladies from Leeds First Methodist Church for serving the meal. The Chamber’s student diplomats Wilson Beasley, Helen Poirer, and Sophie Gromko helped with logistics at the event. China Wok Leeds served delicious Chinese fare for the 70+ people in attendance.
