Ortis shared his personal and professional journey, including lessons learned at an early age while working in his father's small business, experiences that helped shape his strong work ethic and commitment to public service. A pharmacist by training, Ortis later founded and grew a successful Alabama-based home infusion therapy company, serving patients throughout the state for more than two decades.

During his remarks, Ortis emphasized the importance of building relationships with local leaders, listening to citizens, and working collaboratively to strengthen communities throughout the district. He discussed priorities including economic development, workforce readiness, infrastructure improvements, support for small businesses, public safety, and ensuring that local communities have a strong voice in state government.

"I want communities like Leeds to know that my office will be accessible, responsive, and willing to work with local leadership," Ortis said. "If one community wins, we all win."

Ortis also spoke about the importance of giving back and highlighted the work of the Sid Strong Foundation, established in memory of his son, Sid, to support pediatric cancer research.

Chamber members appreciated the opportunity to meet with the senator-elect before he officially takes office and to learn more about his vision for the district and the state.

The Chamber extends its sincere appreciation to everyone who braved the pouring rain to attend the luncheon. Special thanks go to student diplomat Colton Moody for his assistance, the ladies of Leeds First Methodist Church for serving the meal, Marano's d'asporto for providing the meal, Suga Mama's Bakery for providing fabulous desserts, and Leeds First Methodist Church for hosting the event.
