About Our Speaker:

As a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, public service is something Steve has always felt passionate about. His parents always stressed the importance of giving back to the community and his country, a lesson Steve took to heart.

A long-time resident of Vestavia Hills and a graduate of Vestavia Hills High School, Steve was first elected to the Vestavia Hills City Council in 2008, and served two full terms with honor and integrity. While on the council, he was Mayor Pro Tem, the liaison to Vestavia Hills Public Safety (Police and Fire) and an Ex-Efficio member of the Parks and Recreation Board. He also received specialized training and certification from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in multi-hazard emergency planning for schools.

During his tenure, the city saw an increase in revenues, allowing for many quality of life and infrastructure initiatives; among them, the new state-of-the-art City Hall and Police Headquarters. Dozens of new businesses opened in the city, including Chick-fil-A, Sprouts, Lifetime Fitness, and the Patchwork Farms-Publix shopping center. Steve was also instrumental in the planning of the Sicard Hollow Athletic Complex, which provided the city with needed additional playing fields.

Professionally, Steve is the President and CEO of Background IQ, which provides clients around the state with custom background screening for prospective new hires and current employees. He was previously CEO of Bullet Screening Services. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

When he's not working, Steve is involved in a variety of community-based activities. He is a board member for the Jefferson County Economic and Industrial Development Authority, which helps new and expanding businesses find commercial sites for their companies. He helped develop the Vestavia Hills Police Foundation, and currently serves as its President. Steve is also a President of the Sunrise Rotary Club, and an active member of the growing Birmingham lacrosse community, having served as President of the Greater Birmingham Youth Lacrosse Association and a member of the Alabama Lacrosse Association. Steve is a member of the Jefferson County Republican Party Executive Committee, and Vice President of the Mid-Alabama Republican Club.

He is married to Alli McGill Ammons. They have four children, and are members of Church of the Highlands.
