Carla Meloni Named 2026 Leeds Area Chamber Teacher of the Year
Carla Meloni of Leeds Primary School has been named the 2026 Leeds Area Chamber Teacher of the Year.
Meloni, an inclusion kindergarten teacher at Leeds Primary School, was recognized during the Chamber’s monthly luncheon for her outstanding dedication to students and families and for the positive, encouraging environment she creates in her classroom each day.
Leeds City Schools Superintendent John Moore and Leeds Primary School Principal Steven Porter praised Meloni for her passion for teaching, commitment to inclusion and the lasting impact she has on both her students and fellow educators.
During the presentation, Moore shared comments from Meloni’s nomination letter, which highlighted her ability to create a classroom where every child feels safe, valued and excited to learn. The letter also praised her strong communication with families and her dedication to helping students grow both academically and socially.
Meloni has served in education for 23 years and currently teaches in an inclusion classroom where students with special needs learn alongside their peers. She spoke during the luncheon about the joy of celebrating all students’ accomplishments and the importance of teaching empathy, acceptance and encouragement from an early age.
Porter described Meloni as a selfless educator who continually puts students first and said her love and passion for children are evident in everything she does.
As part of the recognition, Meloni received a $500 award sponsored by Heidelberg Materials.
The Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce congratulates Mrs. Meloni on this well-deserved honor and thanks her for the tremendous difference she makes in the lives of Leeds students and families each day.
