The Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed John Moore, Superintendent of Leeds City Schools, as the featured speaker for its monthly luncheon held on Thursday, May 21, at Leeds First Methodist Church.

During his presentation, Moore shared updates on the continued growth and success of Leeds City Schools, highlighting more than $75M in facility investments since 2009, ongoing campus and athletic facility improvements, rising graduation rates, literacy initiatives, career technical education opportunities and the system’s continued focus on student achievement and attendance.

Moore also discussed the challenges and recovery efforts following last summer’s lightning strike and fire damage at Leeds Primary School. He praised the dedication and resilience of teachers, staff and administrators who continued serving students throughout the restoration process.

Additional topics included academic growth, attendance initiatives, national board-certified teachers, summer literacy programs and partnerships that support students preparing for college, careers and military service.

A special moment during the luncheon included the recognition of Carla Meloni of Leeds Primary School as the 2026 Leeds Area Chamber Teacher of the Year.

Thank you to Mr. Moore for sharing today’s update and for the incredible work being done across Leeds City Schools to serve students and families in our community.

The Chamber extends its sincere appreciation to Representative Susan DuBose and State Senator Dan Roberts for sponsoring the luncheon. Additional thanks go to student diplomats Savannah Rhodes and Steicy Jimenez for their assistance, to the ladies of Leeds First Methodist Church for serving the meal, and to the church for hosting the event.
