Leeds Area Chamber Gets Update From Leeds City Schools
At The Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce September 19 luncheon, attendees were privileged to get an update from Leeds City Schools. Mary Beth Lochridge, who leads Family and Community Engagement for Leeds City Schools, and John Moore, Superintendent of Leeds City Schools, presented the info.
A huge thank you to our event sponsor, Joel Hawbaker and the team at Structured Technology LLC, as well as Chamber student diplomats for their dedication, and the wonderful ladies from First Methodist Church for serving a delicious lunch from Rusty’s Bar-B-Q.
Mary Beth Lochridge shared some incredible updates on her work supporting Leeds City Schools (K-8) by: mentoring new and new-to-Leeds teachers; advocating for and partnering with LCS families; and coordinating community involvement and events. Mary Beth also shared that Leeds is one of the first school systems in Alabama to offer parenting classes.
Mary Beth’s job is promoting the amazing things happening at Leeds City Schools. Some of the success stories from Leeds City Schools include: outstanding AP scores at Leeds High School; the Child Nutrition Program excels, consistently achieving top marks in health inspections; over 500 grandparents attended "Grilling with Grands" at Leeds Primary School; and, of course, the free parenting classes available to families. Additionally, the Homer Smiles Project at the high school football field will be starting soon, and all 3rd graders advanced to the 4th grade last year under the state's literacy act. Mary Beth has also recently launched her “Greenwave Greatness” initiative, where she gives weekly recognition to individuals making a difference.
How Can You Help? Follow Leeds City Schools on Facebook and Instagram to stay informed; reach out to Mary Beth with ideas or ways you can support the school system; and donate to the Leeds Education Foundation—just $1 added to your water bill can make a difference.
The goal is simple: buy-in from the community to continue supporting the success of Leeds City Schools.
