Mac and Moss Combo at Leeds Theatre and Arts Center
Mac and Moss Combo at Leeds Theatre and Arts Center | The Leeds Arts Council is hosting a one night event on March 17 at 7:00 pm featuring the MAC AND MOSS COMBO, playing the songs you grew up hearing and singing. Tickets are $10.00. They play the standard jazz tunes from the “Great American Songbook” such as Blue Moon, Moonglow, All of Me, Moon River, Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Satin Doll.
The MAC AND MOSS COMBO features Nancy McLemore on vocals, Mike Moss on guitar, Jon Ford on bass and Don Wendorf on drums.
NANCY McLEMORE heard jazz standards from a very early age. As the youngest of six children, she mimicked the records she heard from her parents’ Spanish-style console. As an adult, she volunteered at a jazz radio station, WVSU, on the campus of Samford University, where she became more intrigued with this medium. Nancy studied opera in graduate school; has had a voiceover career for over 30 years, sang with “Shades Mountain Air” and is now tickled pink to sing jazz.
MIKE MOSS is from Jackson, Mississippi and started playing guitar in 1963. He worked in the corporate world for thirty-six years and played off and on during that time. Now he focuses full time on guitar. His first love is jazz. He has lived in Alabama since 2000.
JON FORD started out playing sousaphone in his high school band and while in the military he started to play an electric bass, later moving to the upright bass. He has enjoyed working on the stern-wheeler river boats playing in dixieland bands, with dance bands at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC, along with many standard and gypsy jazz groups His career included classified communications for the Navy, radio engineer in Kentucky and 30 years with Southern Bell and Bell South and Southern Company in Birmingham, where he retired and still lives.
DON WENDORF, Psy.D. is a retired psychologist and marriage & family therapist and active dementia advocate, hiker, writer/editor, grandpa and musician. He sings and plays drums, tenor banjo/guitar and harmonica in several jazz bands and mandolin, clawhammer banjo, hammered dulcimer and harmonica in several bluegrass/bluegrass gospel/eclectic singer-songwriter groups.
