Chief Parsons started his interest in firefighting as an Explorer with the Bessemer fire Dept in 1982. Then became a volunteer in his hometown of Midfield in 1984. His first "job" as a firefighter was with the Birmingport fire district in 1988. He went to Paramedic school at Wallace state Community College in Hanceville and obtained his Paramedic license in February of 1989. He worked for Hank's Ambulance from 1987-1989.
In November of 1989, Parsons was contacted by his Uncle Bryce Thorton (who was manager of the Leeds Alabama Power office at the time) that the city of Leeds was looking for Firefighter/Paramedics to hire. He interviewed with then Mayor Lynn Maxey and started his first full time job as a Firefighter with Leeds December 18th, 1989.
